The tests are for cholesterol, diabetes, urinary tract infections, pregnancy, ovulation, deteriorating vision and abnormal skin growth. Industry estimates that the over-the-counter health monitoring market in the US was $1,230 million in 1996 and will more than double to $2,820 million by 2000. There are more than 19,000 chain drugstore outlets in the US which had a combined sales of $64,500 million in 1996.
