Executive Summary
French Secretary of State for Health Herve Gaymard has announced a series of strict measures designed to combat hepatitis C. Testing will begin for those most at risk - anyone who received blood transfusions before March 1st, 1990, and intravenous drug users. Guidelines on better hospital disinfection will also be distributed to all hospitals to prevent nosocomial infection. Up to 600,000 French people are infected with the virus, some 60% of whom were infected intravenously.
