Breast screening programme started in Spain:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Insalud, the Spanish health agency, has signed an agreement with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) to set up a two-year screening programme for breast cancer in women aged between 50 and 64. The mammograms will be carried out by AECC clinics and mobile units and anyone who is suspected of having cancer will then be sent to Insalud hospitals to undergo further tests. By freeing its machines from the initial screening phase, Insalud, which provides healthcare for the regions that have not yet become autonomous, hopes to reduce the waiting time for breast cancer diagnosis. Breast cancer is the primary cause of cancer deaths in Spanish women.
