Symphonix Devices has expanded its 12-centre US trial of a surgical implant to aid hearing to include a second external audio processor device. Trials of the new device, the Vibrant HF soundbridge, will be conducted alongside pivotal clinical trials of the Vibrant P processor, expanding the target population for treatment to those with a high-frequency, sensorineural hearing loss. The San Jose, California-based company plans to begin trials of a further, digital external audio processor, Vibrant D, in 1999.
