Homocysteine test could rival cholesterol

The first automated test that measures blood levels of homocysteine, an amino acid associated with heart disease, has been approved for marketing in the US. Made by Norwegian diagnostics company Axis, the test, a fluorescence polarisation immunoassay, is distributed by Abbott Laboratories and runs on Abbott's IMx analysers.
