Companies should soon be able to make use of a formally recognised European standard for manufacturing medical devices using human tissues. The standard's three sections are due to be issued for formal vote by the European standards committee, following agreement on their final wording. They deal with risk analysis and management; sourcing, collection and control; and validation of inactivation and elimination of viruses and transmissible agents in relation to animal tissues.
