Blackstone Medical has received clearance to market its anterior cervical plate system in the US. The system is used after an anterior cervical discectomy when a cervical disk is removed due to herniation or disease and is replaced by bone graft to promote fusion of the vertebrae. The cervical plate immobilizes the fused vertebrae and is an alternative to a cervical collar which is usually worn for up to 10 weeks.
