Executive Summary
Around one third of Iran's medical equipment manufacturers are being threatened with bankruptcy because the government is importing equipment rather than purchasing it locally, the domestic manufacturers association has alleged. It also argues that insufficient hard currency is being allocated to the import of raw materials and spare parts for the medical equipment industry. The industry needs a total of around $200 million, but only $90 million has been set aside by the government, the association says. Iran has some 300 medical equipment manufacturers, producing around 1,300 items.
