Young sufferers of a urinary reflux, in which urine flows back from the bladder into the kidney causing infection and kidney failure, are being offered a new tissue engineered "bung" made from their own cells. The treatment, which is in Phase III trials in the US, may be the only permanent alternative to major surgery.
