Humana, one of the largest publicly-traded managed care companies in the US, is to merge with United Healthcare in a $5.5 billion deal to create a $27 billion company operating across the entire US as well as Hong Kong, Singapore and South Africa. The new business will employ 55,000 people and becomes by far the largest managed care organisation in the US.
