Executive Summary

Canadian point-of-care diagnostics developer Response Biomedical has received a US patent for its Rapid Analyte Measurement Platform (RAMP) technology, the cornerstone of its rapid liquid flow strip assays. The first three assays which use the technology, for diabetes monitoring, heart attack diagnosis and hepatitis B, are in clinical trials which are due to be completed in 1998. The RAMP system uses an immunochromatographic assay and a portable reader to measure antibody-antigen complexes.
