A new virology and immunology centre is to be set up in the French city of Lyons to develop research into prevention, diagnosis and treatment of emerging viruses. The centre should be operating by 1999. It also aims to establish international scientific co-operation, notably with Africa, reports Le Quotidien du Medecin. The project is valued at Fr6.6 million ($1.1 million).
