Executive Summary
BVMed, the German medical device industry association, has established a new interest group covering active implantables. The move is necessary, says BVMed, following the merger of the International Association of Medical Prosthesis Manufacturers (IAPM) and EUCOMED, the European medical device industry association. Until the merger, pacemaker and implantable defibrillator manufacturers were represented by IAPM Germany, whose offices have now closed. As part of an effort to demonstrate the merits and advantages of active implantables to the public, the new group is organising an innovation congress entitled "Effects of the Health Care Reform on Medical Innovations in Cardiology" to be held on February 17 2000 in Berlin.
