Austrian company Life Optics launched its automatic focusing, head mounted surgical microscope at the Medica 99 meeting in Dusseldorf. The Varioscope AF3 combines the advantages of a surgical loupe and operating microscope on a single pair of head mounted binoculars with automatic focus, zoom and automatic parallax control. The device weighs just 300g, so it can be worn for the duration of the operation, said the Vienna-based company.
