The UK's National Institute for Clinical Excellence has started development of a guidelines library covering all aspects of clinical care. The first tranche of work includes guidance on treatment of pressure sores, cancer and acute myocardial infarction, as well as advice to general practitioners on when to refer patients for orthopaedic and vascular surgery. The work programme is separate from NICE's main role of appraising health technologies.
