Siemens Medical Systems and Philips Medical Systems are to develop jointly an enhanced clinical image access service (CIAS). The CORBAMED solution is to be adopted by the Object Management Group - a consortium of 800 companies - as a platform to access picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) data through the electronic patient record format. The companies expect the development of the cross-application technology to take two years and they say, it is not intended to replace the DICOM connectivity standard now used in medical imaging.
