The UK government has delayed issuing a national service framework for coronary heart disease because of concerns over the cost implications, reports the Health Service Journal in its September 16 edition. It is believed the Department of Health (DoH) had planned to extend the number of low and medium-risk patients monitored for coronary heart disease. However, it is concerned that this could be hugely expensive in terms of secondary care interventions and prescribing rates, according to Doncaster health authority head Dr John Radford. The framework is now expected before the end of September.
