Medical device imports to Japan increased 11.2% to ¥34.5 billion ($7.2 billion) in 1998 while exports suffered a slight decline of 0.1% to Yen327.3 billion. Japan's domestic production of medical equipment totalled Yen1,521.4 billion, an increase of 0.5% from the previous year, according to Pharma Japan.
