Varian Medical Systems has received US FDA 510(k) clearance for its new software package for helping doctors plan more effective radiotherapy treatments for cancer. The Helios inverse planning software is to be used with the company's CadPlan PLUS 3-dimensional treatment planning system. Adding inverse planning capabilities to the CadPlan Plus provides a system that supports both forward- and inverse-based external beam techniques and brachytherapy, said the Palo Alto, California-based company.
