Executive Summary
IntraTherapeutics has reported that the first human implant of its iliac stent for revascularising the main artery supplying blood to the legs has been performed successfully as part of the company's US trial for the device. The second generation, stainless-steel, balloon-expandable stent has improved flexibility, radial strength and coverage, according to the company. Studies have shown that stenting the iliac effectively treats claudication, or leg pain in patients with peripheral vascular disease, said St Paul, Minnesota-based IntraTherapeutics.
