Executive Summary
STAAR Surgical, which develops minimally-invasive medical devices for the refractive, cataract and glaucoma surgery markets, has formed a wholly owned subsidiary, Laser and Implant Technology Centers. The division will set up a chain of laser centres in the US to offer vision correction. Monrovia, California-based STAAR Surgical's centres will use the VISX STAR S2 excimer laser system. The centres will also provide the STAAR implantable contact lens once it gains approval from the FDA. STAAR expects to have up to 20 fully equipped centres in operation by end of 2000.
