Boston Scientific's Scimed division has begun European distribution of its Rescue Thrombus Management System for removal of fresh thrombus in coronary arteries during acute myocardial infarction. The console and disposable catheter is used when there is angiographic, angioscopic, or ultrasound evidence of fresh thrombus using suction. It can be used as sole therapy, or with adjunctive balloon angioplasty or stenting. It is also indicated for saphenous vein grafts.
