Japanese company Takiron is preparing to launch an improved version of its Fixsorb bioabsorbable implants for fracture fixation. The Super-Fixsorb has completed human trials and the company is expecting that the products will be approved in 2001. The new product, which provides a high degree of strength combined with complete absorption, is a development of the company's Fixsorb-MX which was introduced in 1997 for oral surgery. It is manufactured from poly-L-lactic acid and hydroxyapatite.
