This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

California has become the first US state to implement mandatory safety needle usage. Under a law which went into effect on July 1, all healthcare facilities in the state are required to use approved safety needles to protect healthcare workers from the risk of infection from accidental needlesticks. An additional 17 states plus Washington DC have similar legislation either pending or under consideration, says Ventura, California-based Med Design, one of many companies developing safety needle devices.
