Swedish dialysis company Gambro's first-quarter results showed improved operating margin and earnings. The operating margin was 18.4%, down from the 19.3% in 1998's first quarter, but up sharply from the last quarter figure of 15.5%. The company had operating earnings of SKr905 million ($120 million), compared with SKr858 million in the previous first quarter. Sales were SKr4.92 billion, up from SKr4.45 billion. The company says the results signify a turnaround - it has been burdened by significant restructuring costs (see Clinica No 843, p 9).
