Intuitive Surgical has CE-marked its computer-enhanced surgical system for performing minimally invasive surgery. The system consists of a display unit, a control console and a surgical arm unit which uses tiny computer-enhanced mechanical wrists to position and manoeuvre detachable, pencil-sized surgical instruments. Surgeons are able to perform procedures seated at the console while viewing a high-resolution three dimensional image of the surgical field.
