Executive Summary
Cordis Endovascular is to begin marketing its self-expanding SMART stent for use in biliary obstruction treatment following clearance from the FDA. The device is made from nitinol, a titanium/nickel shape memory alloy, enabling it to resist being crushed from external, deforming forces. The stent was launched in Europe and Japan last year (see Clinica No 829, p 17).
