Companies co-develop image-guided surgery

Smith & Nephew and Medtronic Sofamor Danek are to jointly develop and market image-guided surgery applications for orthopaedic procedures under an exclusive deal. The agreement centres on Medtronic Surgical Navigation Technologies' proprietary image-guided fluoroscopic surgical navigation systems. S&N's Memphis, Tennessee division will co-market iON Medtronic's system for orthopaedic trauma and total joint surgery worldwide except Japan and South Korea. Medtronic Sofamor Danek will market the system for spinal applications.
