Executive Summary
Dutch researchers have found evidence of a link between testosterone and endometrial cancer. Reporting their findings to the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Bologna, Italy, this week, the researchers said that compared with women with benign gynaecological conditions, patients with endometrial cancer had higher testosterone levels in blood vessels of the uterus and ovaries and higher expression of androgen receptors on endometrial cells. Lead investigator Dr Helen Mertens, of the Academic Hospital in Maastricht, speculated that the discovery could lead to improved treatments for endometrial cancer.
