Compromise agreed on draft late payments directive

The public sector will be held accountable for late payments to suppliers if a compromise agreement on the draft EU Late Payments Directive is confirmed. The draft does not go far enough, however, says EUCOMED, the European medical device association, which fears that, although subject to the directive, member states may have "succeeded in protecting themselves and their payment behaviour" from its terms. Its concerns surround opt-outs agreed for certain categories of contracts to be defined by national laws.
