Executive Summary
Kyowa Medex has launched its Determiner TBGL blood test for TB and atypical mycobacteria infection in Japan. The test, which produces results within two and a half hours, is claimed to be more accurate than sputum tests, with around 81% detection rate. Based on an antibody reaction to TBGL surface antigen, the product was originally developed by Sawai and Osaka City University. Outside Japan it will be sold by Sumisho Pharma International, a Sumitomo affiliate, initially in South Korea and Taiwan.
