Executive Summary

Varian Medical Systems has received 510(K) clearance for its SomaVision software by the US FDA. SomaVision 6.0 is part of the company's new Generation 6 system of computer products for cancer radiotherapy. The software translates images from CT scans into 3D images of tumours within patient anatomies. The system allows radiation oncologists to simulate treatment plans on screen and optimise beam placement so that correct doses are delivered to tumours with minimal exposure, said the Palo Alto, California-based company.
