German liberals want pre-implantation diagnosis:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The German FDP liberal party has introduced a bill which would allow for the diagnosis of in vitro fertilised embryos before implantation into the womb. The FDP hopes that this would bring new hope to couples who have previously had handicapped children, while at the same time protecting the mother from danger following a possible abortion. It is at present unclear as to whether the embryo protection law allows pre-implantation diagnostics. For this reason the ethics commission has always opposed the implementation of such a law.
