Europe raises animal tissue standards and hopes France agrees

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Manufactures of medical devices containing animal tissues will soon be able to refer to a European standard to show that their products comply with the essential requirements of the Medical Devices Directive. This should help address the increasing number of safety concerns that exist among regulators, politicians, medical staff and patients about the risk of transmitting bovine spongiform encephalopathy and other animal viruses.
