The number of surgical operations carried out in Oman has increased steadily since 1997, rising to 31,423 in 2000, said Dr Ali bin Mohammed bin Moosa, minister of health, last week in Muscat. He added that the number of laboratories had increased three-fold since 1985, rising to 124 in 2000. This, said Dr Moos, had greatly increased diagnostic possibilities in the country.
