Roche has bought private diabetes monitoring company Amira Medical for an undisclosed amount. The company has developed technology enabling users to draw a small blood sample from areas of the body other than the fingertip - a major problem for diabetics as there are more nerve endings in fingertips. Diabetes has provoked considerable interest this year, with Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic and now Roche making acquisitions in this area.
