SonoSite, the spin-off portable sonography business from ATL Ultrasound, has started shipping its hand-carried point-of-care echocardiography system for hospital and doctors' office use, following FDA approval in December. The company is positioning the device as an adjunct to standard physician auscultation. It measures left ventricular function, chamber size, source of murmurs, valve regurgitation, wall thickness and cardiomyopathies.
