TheraSense, of Alameda, California has received FDA clearance for its FreeStyle "virtually pain-free" blood glucose test for diabetics. The test allows people suffering from the condition to obtain a blood sample from sites other than the fingertips, where close proximity of the nerve endings makes repeat testing painful. FreeStyle was developed to improve diabetes management and provides a blood glucose value using a fraction of the blood sample currently required by other products on the market, said the company.
