There are two million HIV viral load tests conducted each year in the US to monitor the progress of drug therapy. The mean time between a major component of that drug therapy being adjusted by a physician is just six months. There are some 350,000 patients on triple drug therapy and of those newly presenting, an average of 25% have resistance to some of the commonly used drugs.
