The Italian health ministry has updated its directory of healthcare research centres (IRCCS) under an ongoing R&D promotion programme. The directory contains information about each of the 32 public and private sector centres, including their clinical, scientific and training activities. The relaunch of Italian R&D will depend on its capacity to attract funding jointly from the public and private sectors, the ministry has said. In 2001, the government provided Lit550 billion ($254 million) for healthcare R&D.
