Faster cancer treatment "than ever before" is promised by GE Medical Systems with its GE Discovery LS, which combines a GEMS CT scanner and advanced PET system. Faster diagnosis will optimise the potential breakthrough effect of new cancer therapies, indicates Homer Macapinlac, a director and PET specialist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The results of a Swiss survey showed that use of the Discovery system led to a 60% improvement in surgeons' ability to pinpoint tumours, said GEMS.
