Executive Summary
From January 1 2002, Norway's hospitals will be under state-ownership. This comes as a result of a law passed last week in which the government, represented by health minister Tore Tcentnne of the Social Democratic Party, was able to secure the support of the Conservatives and the populist Progress Party in a heated debate on the matter Mr Tcentnne said that the hospital reform act would provide a better means for hospitals to solve their present problems. It would also result in more transparency as to who held ultimate responsibility for hospital financing and would promote a more efficient use of resources.
