Executive Summary
Denmark's Centre for Evaluation and Health Technology Assessment (MTV-Instituttet) has published a report on the use of PET scanning. Special focus has been placed on the use of the agent F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in cancer diagnostics. The use of FDG is currently covered by two Danish laws on medical products and radioactive substances. The report also highlights the effectiveness of PET scanning in reducing the number of deaths as well as helping to avoid unnecessary surgery.
