Device classification issue raises questions in Spain

When is a device not a device? That is the question being asked in Spain at the moment after an insulin-dependent diabetic has lost the legal case to seek reimbursement for the costs of using an insulin pump, because the device is classed as a "pharmaceutical accessory". As such, it is excluded from Spanish legislation that aims to guarantee equal access to medical and pharmaceutical services nationally.
