The Swedish handicap ombudsman has written a letter to the minister for social affairs, Lars Engqvist, asking for a change in the law on hearing aids. At present, at least 11 district councils require patients to contribute towards the cost of a hearing aid and the ombudsman believes that medical aids should be provided free on a loan basis.
