UK damns breast implant rule

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

"The current regulatory system is deeply flawed." This is the main conclusion to emerge from the UK House of Commons health committee enquiry on the regulation of breast implantation and the provision by the government of information regarding its safety. While praising the Department of Health (DoH) and the Medical Devices Agency (MDA) for "their efforts to have breast implants reclassified as high risk devices and to achieve uniform standards in Europe's notified bodies", it finds that the system "may need an even more radical overhaul".
