French antenatal ultrasound associations threaten action

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Two French associations representing ultrasound practitioners are threatening that their members will stop obstetric examinations as liability fears grow over the non-detection of abnormalities (see Clinica No 947, p 3). Increased insurance premiums are on the horizon in the light of three legal cases concerning children whose handicaps were not detected during antenatal ultrasound procedures.
