Climate of fear stifling innovation, says German lawyer

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Innovation in the medical profession is being stifled by doctors' fears of being criminalised, claims Rolf-Werner Bock, a specialist medical lawyer from Berlin. Speaking at the annual conference of the Bavarian association of leading accident surgeons (VLU-Bayern) last week in Munich, Dr Bock argued against "pre-emptive prevention", whereby administrators, sponsors and doctors themselves ban co-operation between the medical profession and industry before it has occurred.
