Guidant has launched its new Axius Off-Pump System, designed for use in beating heart bypass procedures. The system offers a number of advantages over Guidant's Achieve system, introduced last year. These include a low profile mounting mechanism for positioning target vessels, using the company's Axius XPOSE device to provide access to the rear of the heart. Guidant expects to launch the Axius System in Europe in the near future.
