Glaucoma screening should remain the province of ophthalmologists and should not be undertaken by opticians, says the chairman of the federal association of ophthalmologists (BVA), Dr Uwe Kraffel. The statement, made last month, was prompted by a report which seeks to examine the cost-effectiveness of tests undertaken by opticians to measure intra-ocular pressure by means of non contact tonometry (NCT).
